Thai Airways, the national flag carrier of Thailand is planning to grow its cargo business from Ireland with the appointment of Dublin based air cargo specialists WCCS.
Founded in 1960, Thai Airways is one of the world’s best known airlines and a founder member of the Star Alliance Group. Operating from key hubs in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai airport, Thai Airways have a long established reputation for the quality of their service and an extensive network that extends to 76 destinations in 34 countries.
The current Thai Airways fleet comprises of 90 planes and the airline is actively implementing a comprehensive strategy to upgrade and renew their aircraft and services. Recent changes include the refurbishment of Boeing 747 and 777 cabins and the addition of an Airbus A380 to the fleet. Thai Airways have orders in for 24 aircraft including cost efficient Boeing 787 and Airbus A350′s. A spokesperson for WCCS commented, “reaction from Irish freight agents and exporters to the Thai Airways double daily LON-BKK service is very positive. In particular they are pleased to have a quality carrier in the market place that can provide good onward connections into South/East Asia and Australia”.
Thai Airways have won numerous international awards over the past 50 years and they regularly feature amongst the world’s best airline carriers. Recent accolades include the Payload “Marketing of year award”, the “Best South-East Asian Airline and Best Airline Business Class” at the 2013 TTG Travel Awards and three top ten airline rankings in the 2013 Smart Travel Asia awards.
